    I use a dummy container to set this up, as I want to keep all of my environment documented in compose files.Docker Macvlan and Ipvlan Experimental Driver Examples For reference of anyone looking at this later (you poor soul), here are the two networks I ended up creating (on separate servers, of course). I must have been overlapping the ip-range before, as this time everything worked swimmingly (or if it's about to break, then my family will be very upset with me). Okay, as everyone seemed to think this was a completely fine thing to do, I went back and gave it another go (it's been many months since I last worked on it). Is there a way to designate an IP address in the ip range as the gateway and perform some NAT to map it to the real gateway? If that is the issue, then how do I solve this (if it's not, what am I doing wrong)? I can't change the subnet because it has to contain the gateway IP, and that is fixed. I'm assuming the issue is although the IP range is different, the subnet is still the same, and it's confusing the switch's forwarding table.

    While I typically know TCP/IP fairly well at Layer3/4, I get a little foggy in exactly how the second MAC address integrates with ARP and Layer 2. When I create a second host with a similar command (change the IP range to 10.0.1.240/28) nothing works - I get no connectivity from the containers. Set the IP address in the compose file with an external network and boom - dedicated IP addresses for containers (especially useful when you need to do things like run multiple DNS servers for different purposes). Here's my command: docker network create -d macvlan \įor that host, works great. I've rather arbitrarily set aside 10.0.1.224/28 (16 IPs through 239) for docker containers. I've been running macvlan on one host for some time, but I'm having trouble setting up a second server.
